I think the ideal would be to teach English with a team: one Brazilian, one native speaker. A Brazilian teacher is going to better understand what the student's problem is because the teacher has had to fight the same obstacle. A native speaker will keep the student on track, speaking what is really spoken as opposed to what a book says is spoken. My father-in-law had a Greek teach him English, and he insisted that Americans say "I say!" to catch the attention of a waiter. He sure as hell didn't believe me! LOL Have you noticed that Americans have trouble with "por" and "para"? A native would not understand the problem, probably, but he would be able to give correct examples of how to use the words. |
