| Mensagem: | Dear Andre, Indeed the verb to play is very versatil. I had overlooked the "to play an instrument".(tocar, alem de brincar e jogar) There are other " plays" as well like a play in the theatre. However to play watersports or to play archery sounds in English the same as "brincar de water ski e brincar de dar tira com flecha." Would you say "brincar de tennis e brincar de piano" is correct just because, say, an English speaker translated this (wrongly) from his native language? The texts you quote are by a non-native english speaker which is obvious from the numerous errors in English. Therefore wouldn't you rather have the opinion from a native speaker ( like Tom) instead of a text taken off the internet? Whatever is written there isn't necessarily correct english. I feel obliged to react to your comments as this forum is visited by many who want to improve or learn a bit more English. Who wants to be responsible for loads of Brazilians saying : Eu brinco tennis: eu jogo piano" ou seus equivalentes em Ingles? |
