Andresa, the English "you" can be addressed to anyone, from the President on down to a bus driver. It is perfectly ok to address to anyone as "you". No native speaker would take it in an offensive way. The only exceptions are when addressing celebrity foreign Presidents, Kings and Ambassadors. In this case, you would say your excellency/highness or majesty. Even so, if one were to address someone of these categories with a "you", it would be ok. I guess the english language is a bit more democratic than portuguese. |
