| Mensagem: | Hey! We just got back from shopping and it's almost dinner time. We're going to eat at 1830 or so today. Some people would say six thirty but we are a military family so we use both systems. We have breakfast around seven o'clock in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Then we go to exercise. On Tuesday and Thursday we eat breakfast later because we don't have anything scheduled. Saturday and Sunday breakfast is "whenever" we want to eat. We have breakfast on the weekends in a more leisurely fashion. The menu is more varied and the times more relaxed. We use the phrases to eat, to have breakfast, to have lunch, to have dinner, to eat lunch, to eat dinner, to dine, to snack, to nibble and others without any steadfast rules. It depends on the family and the region of the country. In some parts of the country lunch is around noon but dinner is also. Then later on in the evening they have supper. Where I grew up dinner and supper were the same meal which was in the evening after the sun went down. So, there are regional issues here also. We have brunch on weekends. That's a combination of breakfast and lunch (br+unch). It's a meal that covers both late breakfast and an early lunch. Brunch is usually a social thing where people take their time and socialize when they eat. Some families, especially those with kids who like to make up words, have a meal called "lunper" (not a real word like brunch). Can you figure out what's a lunper? |
