| Mensagem: | apart from the suggestions already made i believe part of the 'appeal' of english might also relate to the fact it is a mixed European language combining elements from the latino and germanic language families - it thereby straddles the gap between the two this fits with the 'cultural hegemony' stuff because it was basically all European whether Spanish, French, Dutch or English i would not put money on japanese as being the default language of preference - i'd be looking to cantonese or mandarin |
