I had never heard the word before so looked it up. It seems originally to have come  from rigging ( 'dar um jeitinho nas ')  horse races. It means something like easily ( com só um pequeno empurrão) winning a race. Also interesting was I saw  one of  Dalé 's 'slang' words in the text. So have  a look:

Bob O'Connor's mother was right.
"My mother always told me three's a charm," a jubilant O'Connor told supporters Tuesday night after he won the Democratic nomination for Pittsburgh mayor.

O'Connor, a former three-term city councilman who nearly won the nomination four years ago, virtually clinched the job. That's because a Republican has not been elected mayor in more than 70 years.
