| Mensagem: | I simply mean that wrangling and bickering tend to be vapid by nature; argument tends to devolve around minor points. Probably some on this forum have learnt something useful from our haggling over terminology and grammar. I don't doubt you are a good student. "Slacker" is my term for full-time students or acedemics. As you know, I don't view purely mental actvity as being essentially productive - you do; we can dis-agree about that. One of my main problems with our current social structure is that division between career "thinkers" and "workers". I believe everyone should train their minds to push the boundaries, and everyone should perform some useful practical "work". It is precisely this attitude that has led to the vast inequities in modern societies - that "smart" people are too good for ordinary activities. They'd be "smarter", more whole and more happy if they were more integrated; and the working drones better off if they indulged in acedemics. I recommend to you "Living the good life" by Scott Nearing. He was an academic and a socialist who then formulated a better plan for living. -Good luck, professor! |
