You have two options, depending on what you mean: Second conditional (unreal present condition): If I were in Brazil, I wouldn't do that. In this case, it is theoretically possible to fulfil the condition. In other words, the result could happen if a present situation were different. However, because you are not in Brazil (unreal present condition), the result won't meterialize. Third conditional (unreal past condition): If I had been in Brazil, I wouldn't have done that. In this case, it is impossible to fulfil the condition. In other words, you just speculate what could have happened if a past condition would have been different. You haven't been to Brazil, but you still wonder what would have happened if you had. Note: The sentence "If I were in Brazil, I wouldn't have done that" is not correct from a grammatical point of view. |
