| Mensagem: | I read this thread and see many good ideas. When we have someone do the beds we mean "arumar a cama" but we also change the beds. That means "trocar a roupa da cama" and it's used like this: "Yesterday I had the maid change the beds." However, you can also hear something like this: "My son wouldn't go to sleep last night. He wanted to change beds because he thinks bunk beds are for babies." In this situation the kid no longer wanted to sleep in a bunk bed (beliche, cama em forma de pratileira usada quando tiver pouco espaço ou uma familia grande) and he/she wanted to move to a regular type bed. While the Dad and his kid were arguing about changing beds the older daughter was sent off to do the dishes. Dad didn't want her to be able to put her two cents into the conversation because he remembered how hard it was to make her stay in the bunk beds when she was about six years old. He ended up buying her a new bed, a new dresser, a new mirror and new curtains for her room. Dad didn't want to let his son get the idea he could have a regular bed because then they would have to buy two beds, one for each son, and until the Christmas bonus is received there is no money for new furniture. Make sense? So.....there is an idiomatic expression in the above paragraph. Hope everyone knows what "put your two cents in" means!! |
