Mensagem:  <<Often ina  standoff, there is a hostage, possibly more than one.  If the police tries to enter the building, the bad guy may kill the hostage. >>

The compound (standoff) tells a tale. The police and the bad guy will literally "stand off" from each other, neither side winning or losing, the hostage getting dragged around in the process.

Well, it did for me... after Dale telling us all what it means.
