Assunto:  Than then when

Mensagem:

Hi Marcio,

I am intrigued by the use of than instead of then.

If then means  então, logo em seguida, it makes  more sense to me

to use then instead of than( do que) but who I am to argue?

However I found this in Wikipedia which confirms the than bit but not the when bit :

no sooner ... than immediately after or when: no sooner had he spoken than the stench drifted up
4. sooner or later eventually
USAGE: When is sometimes used instead of than after no sooner, but this use is generally regarded as incorrect: no sooner had he arrived than (not when) the telephone rang.

Have an extremely nice Sunday
