Am I missing something? For I have read only the I´m part of the stuff, brilliantly answered by Dale. To me, he don´t said that "here I am" is wrong in all likely contexts. I kept guessing about the "Here I am" and I still think that it´s possible, but maybe not in the context you talked about (but then, what the context it was taken? dunno). I crawled into Google and typed "here I am", and a bunch hits appeared, but I admit that in some contexts it works and in others it won´t.
