Right, but it is still not a big deal to say you are intermediate if you are able to communicate in a particular language. After all, if the concept of beginner, intermediate, and advanced vary from person to person (which shouldn't vary all that much, since we are just talking about cold, comfortable and hot here), so does "truth" in this case, unavoidably. It's all relative. Now, if he/she does not want to lean on uncertainties, a detailed description of his/her language skills would be necessary... but again, it may not be very practical in a résumé. Therefore, if you does not want to miss an opportunity or run the risk of telling a "lie", the word intermediate makes the bet all the more secure. |
