The typical wound is caused by something hard or sharp (bullet, knife, stick, kiss of a mother-in-law, etc.) that cuts, lacerates, or penetrates the flesh.  (Are there exceptions?  Is the Pope Catholic?  Of course!  I can wound your pride, and you can wound my confidence,)  As you can see, a wound is normally a specific kind of injury. 

If a soldier is shot, he is wounded.  If he falls and breaks his leg, he is injured. 

Maradona was probably injured during his career.  Someone stepped on his hand (or ego), he fell on the field (on his ego), etc.  If he was wounded, it probably happened when a fan threw a bottle of Quilmes at him, and hit the target.
