| Mensagem: | Pat: As you can see I put the word official between quotation marks (" "). That was to indicate that I didn't mean to say "official" literally. Also, if I were to do some research on the countries you named, I would certainly find out that their governments are strongly encouraging their citizens to study the English language more than any other language. I wonder why? Yes I do think the English language is considered a prestigious language in Iraq and Iran. You see, I find the word POWER and PRESTIGE to be closely related to each other. And guess what, in France, contrary to the popular cliche, the American culture is the single most influential foreign culture. And as you know, language is merely a reflection of culture. Finally, I applaud you on your attempts to become bilingual. Bilingualism certainly has its benefits; for instance, your brain will have certainly become more agile.... Good Luck -Miguel Vieira |
