A "split infinitive" is an infinitive with a word or words between "to" and the verb. One of the best known is Star Trek's to boldy go where... I want to always be with you. (I want to be with you always.) Try to carefully listen to me. (Try to listen carefully to me.) He told me to not go to town. (He told me not to go to town.) This was a real "no-no", but I believe it is becoming accepted. It is still a controversial subject. |
