If I used the word circular in the States, the listener would understand a bulletin, flyer, advertisement, etc. of the kind found on windshields, in the mail, etc. "Circulator" appears to be used in Washginton, DC, to refer to a specific bus system. It's a catchy term, but it is not a term likely to be known outside that area. In Los Angeles a similar system is called DASH" (Downtown Area Short Hop). Angelenos understand what it means, but someone from San Diego or Cleveland would have no idea what we are talking about. We must always bear in mind that the English of the USA is not always interchangeable with the English of other countries. |
