Last night a Costa Rican taxi driver had the same complaint. A woman got into his cab one night and ignored his greetings. After several attempts, she asked if saying "good evening" was mandatory. If it was, she would get out. The driver stopped the cab and asked HER to get out. Something very common in Costa Rica - maybe it's cultural - is to ignore questions. Do you know where the Restaurante Barú is? (silence) Do you know where the Restaurante Barú is? (silence) If asked you a question twice and I am waiting for an answer. (silence) Let me out! If the driver doesn't know where you are going, you need to know so that you can decide if you want to remain with him or find another cab. What is so difficult about saying yes or now? |
